The University of
Dar es Salaam is pleased to announce 62 merit-based scholarships;
Where,
52 for Undergraduate
and
10 Postgraduate
Students ( At the Master’s Level ).
Applicants should
keep in mind that, only the successful candidates will register for studies at
the University of Dar es Salaam and her constituent’s colleges ( That is the
Dar es Salaam University College of Education [DUCE] and Mkwawa University
College of Education [ MUCE ] ).

1. University
of Dar es Salaam Undergraduate Merit Scholarship
Eligibility
Concerned
The applicant:
a) Must be Tanzanian
Native,
b) Must have
outstanding/excellent Qualifications at the Ordinary (‘O’) Level of Secondary
Education and with at least 12 points in THREE subjects at the Advanced (‘A’)
level of Secondary Education or equivalent ( Notably A =
5; B = 4; C = 3; D =
2; E = 1; S = 0.5 and F = 0 point ),
c) Must be admitted
to the University of Dar es Salaam,
d) Must not be older
than 25 years at the time of application,
e) Candidates
applying for the UDSM Merit scholarships are encouraged to simultaneously apply
for bursaries through the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB).
Though ,
Scholarship beneficiaries will be required to relinquish the HESLB support, and
f) Applicant should
bear in mind that The scholarship award is tenable for one academic year and
renewable for successive academic years on condition the recipient maintains a
minimum GPA of 3.8.

The scholarship will
cover Tuition fee, Meals and Accommodation.
All the Merit
Scholarship designees are guaranteed accommodation at the UDSM’s hostels
throughout their Scholarship period. Special requirements and final year
projects will also be supported as specified in their respective programmes

Requirements for
Application
Programme specific
admission requirements are found in the Postgraduate Prospectus 2019/2020 on
the UDSM Website.
Additionally, the
Applicant Should strictly meet the following requirements:
1. Be a citizen of
Tanzania,
2. Be a graduate of
the University of Dar es Salaam,
3. Must have
obtained admission to an appropriate Master’s programme he is planning to take,
4. Not older than 30
years of age at the time of application,
5. The Merit
Scholarship holder must be prepared to accept duties as a postgraduate teaching
assistant,
6. The candidate
must have completed his/her first degree within two years before applying for
the scholarship, and
7. The candidate
must have an undergraduate degree GPA of 3.8 (on a 5 Point scale) or higher.
Mode of Application
Applicants who have
met required all the requirements listed above must submit their applications online via the University of Dar es Salaam website

1. Copies of
university degree certificate and transcript ( PDF FORMAT ),
2. A Copy of Birth
Certificate ( PDF FORMAT ),
3. One
recommendation letter from persons familiar with your academic achievements,
character and personality, and
4. A one page
motivation letter.
As normal, The
scholarship will cover tuition fee, stipend, books and stationery as well as
research costs as stipulated in the University of Dar es Salaam Postgraduate
Fee Structure.

Note: Applications
for the Merit Scholarships will be open from 16th October to 3rd
November 2019.
Selection and
awarding outcomes will strictly be communicated within one week after the
application deadline.

Applicants discovered
to have submitted knowingly or unknowingly forged certificates or any other
falsified information will not be considered and appropriate legal action will
be taken against them.
